  1. Everything has gone dark here… no forum activity, no email responses, no blog entries… Too bad, FA had fabulous potential…

    1. Fractal Architect was withdrawn from Mac App Store. The author of the Flam3 rendering utility felt that Apple’s EULA conflicted with the GNU Public license under which Flam3 is licensed. There was nothing we could do to change Apple’s policies, so the application was withdrawn until a new rendering engine could be written.

A new rendering engine for Fractal Architect has been written using OpenCL. It will run on an Intel CPU, and can also be GPU accelerated on Macs that have discrete Nvidia or ATI GPUs. We are currently in the process of integrating it into the Fractal Architect product. The new renderer has been tested only on Mac Lion, using Nvidia, ATI, and Intel configurations. It has not yet been integration tested with Fractal Architect and we have not been able to see whether the prior OpenCL 1.0 release on Snow Leopard is mature enough to support Fractal Architect (if not, Mac Lion will be a new Fractal Architect system requirement).

The forum is still open, but closed to new online web account registration. The forum was getting eaten alive by spam bots, creating thousands of fake users, and posting garbage, spam, and porn.
